That's a tall order right there. I've felt for a long time that the Jap cars got more credit than they deserve in that department.

They caught up a long time ago.

My brother has a '98 Lumina with 190,000 miles on the original powertrain. My dad owned the car prior to my brother and put the majority of miles on it. Other than routine maintenance, the car has needed a couple of alternators (very common...and a 5 minute swap job) and a fuel tank.

My Grandma's old Explorer (1996) in the 8 years they owned it needed a thermostat. That's it. That thing would have gone on to do 200K easily.

The Ford Crown Vic proves itself EVERY DAY on our streets. There is not another car out there that will take the abuse the Crown Vic (well...Panther platform cars) will take. 100K miles of severe police use......and then they go on to do another 300K as a taxi......with NOTHING but routine maintenance.
