GMT-800 Mirror Caps
I've been wanting to color match my mirrors for awhile and finally got the stones to do it. I was not sure how to get the damn things off. Well they pop off easily with some sunshine and a screwdriver. They are held on by 4 plastic clips and several strips of moulding tape. Gently slip the screwdriver in and under the Cap and start working it off.
The 4 slots are where the tabs engage the housing. Notice the moulding tape.
I sanded the covers smooth starting with 220 grit and worked down to 1000 grit, I wet sanded the caps one night at the kitchen sink. That was a big hit with the wife.
I used Duplicolor products, adhesion promoter, color and clear coat. I went with 5 color and 5 clear coats. Came out pretty decent.
Notice the 4 plastic clips on the back of the cover.
I bought some 3M Moulding Tape and replaced the old stuff, each mirror took 8 one inch strips.
Inside shot.
Finished product. On a side note, I got some Mothers Back to Black and cleaned up the mirrors and some other black moulding. I give the stuff two thumbs up, just remember to buff it down with a cloth after awhile.
