Since winter is coming (dammit) and days are going to be shorter, I've been considering upgrading the backup lights in the truck. With the shell and the tint you can't see squat behind you with the wimpy OEM bulbs.

Has anybody had any success upgrading the bulbs themselves or do I need to go with a pair of small halogen (or LED) lights tucked underneath by the receiver hitch?

I put a small pair of driving lights on my hitch, on the 2500. All I have is the factory tint, but they work great. They dont draw too much, so I was able to wire them in the stock reverse light wiring.

*edit* These

I plan on mounting some lights on the hitch as well. They're only 35w, but they should definitely help.

I have had great luck with PIAA Xtreme Whites. They are the light blue coated bulbs that put out the cleaner light. I've never had a shell though. You know how I feel about ADDING stuff.

Hell, just get these and wire them up to a switch. They should be bright enough and plenty useful on tailgaters.

I've been thinking about adding something. Ever since I took the bull bar off, I've got extra wiring and a switch, so it would be almost no work. I might just save those wires for when I get a z71 Tahoe valance though. :D
