Hey pops...

What would be your professional advice on removing the shiny things that run along the lower parts of my doors and bed?

If I remove them, it would have to look like they were never there.

Suggestions?

Remove them... Now!

They are held on with glue similar to that on badges. It would probably be time consuming, but you could get them off without the paint looking like they were there.

^^^ THAT about sums it up. A hair dryer or careful use of a heat gun will help the glue separate but if you choose to go with the heat gun... be careful. Too much direct heat can damage the paint.

I do think it's a GREAT idea to remove them though.

Most rockers are held on by strips of 3M. Try pulling a small piece off and see what you uncover. I've never seen 3M harm paint. It's just a bear to get off sometimes...

you can use a piece of mig welding wire, tie it to a bolt on each end for handles and use it to cut the tape behind the pieces. just slide it behind and pull. then the auto body stores have eraser wheels that go into the chuck of a drill. you can erase the leftover tape from the paint without hurting it. just wash and polish when done, looks like it was never there.
