My technician sold his Sierra All-terrain this week. So he pulled all of his mods. One of them was his aftermarket NAV unit. He's has only had the unit since the end of last year and offered it to me.

I have the factory navigation and I am very pleased with it, but there are a few things that were not offered in 07 that I wanted (Bluetooth and iPhone/iPod support mainly).

I have had it less than a week, so I am still learning. There are a ton of options on this thing. Initial impressions are very good. There are a few functions on the factory unit I like better, but none of which are deal breakers and if I did not have them on the factory unit for so long I wouldn't even notice.

Stereo
Sound is very good. Much better than factory and a lot more tunable with the equalizer settings. It does have a xm tuner.

iPhone/iPod/Zune/etc
Pretty much any mp3 player can be played. Including videos from your iPhone and streaming video (Netflix) can be played.

NAV
I'm liking the NAV more and more as I play with it. If I would have posted this a few days ago I would not have been as positive. Now I do really like it and on have one minor compliant. You cannot do a split screen like factory. Half NAV half radio. This is not a big deal because I can count on one hand the times I actually used this with the factory unit but the fact that it's not there makes me want to do it all the time.
On initial start up it takes a few seconds for the map to load. From then on its instant when navigating between other screens.

Backup cam/sensors
The backup cam comes up very quickly. Even with initial start up before the splash screen has loaded even. Another feature that I really like is the backup sensor display. It puts a picture of a truck on the screen and shows you what sensor is picking up an object.

To sum up. I'm happy with the purchase. I think it's a worthwhile upgrade. I highly recommend it for those without NAV and want to add it. Those with NAV, I still think its a good upgrade. If you have factory NAV, with Bluetooth and iPod connectivity then I still think its a sound upgrade and a lot more customizable.

I'm more than happy to take pics/videos of functions if anyone is interested.

Here is a great FAQ page.

There are a ton of splash screen to choose from. This is the one I picked for now. Only takes about 10 min to change.

I'll keep you updated. If you have any specific questions let me know.

Oh, customer service is on par with Black Bear. Second to none.

Speaking of BBP. Do you have an autocal? Matt is selling that too. I'm getting ready to list it for him.

Scott, something else to consider if you are thinking about doing the switch. You have the factory NAV, correct? They are selling on ebay for $700-800. That makes the switch very cost effective.

One thing I forgot to add for those that have a 12 or 13 model. If you have the stock head unit and not the factory NAV, then this upgrade is a cinch. If you buy a 12 or newer with the factory NAV, then there is not an aftermarket head unit on the market you can use yet.

For 12 GM totally redesigned the NAV units in the truck and the use a different wiring harness. Currently, no one makes an adapter or head unit that will work. So basically, if you buy a new truck with factory NAV make sure you like it.

I have done a few of the direct replacement radios for the dealers and the customers like them. Most of them have never had any experience with the Factory Nav to do any sort of comparison so they are simply happy with what they get.
