I am in the process of rebuilding my Front differential on my 1999 GMC Sierra 5.3 4wd w/ 3.73 gears.
I understand this whole process and it is almost complete but I am stuck on something.
No matter what I do the Adjuster Lock tabs keep loosening up when I go to tap them into place with a punch.
Heres the process I keep doing.
1. Screw adjuster into threaded ring in which retains the lock tab.
2. Pound out the adjuster assembly with the ring attached using punch.
3. Install new lock tab with a dab of grease to hold it in place.
4. Replace the threaded ring on top of new lock tab.
5. Pound threaded ring back into place using punch in a circular manor evenly on the backside. (at this point the lock tab seems tight exactly like it should be)
6. Screw adjuster back into place.
7. Install racing behind adjuster where it sits.
8. Tap adjuster tab into place where its supposed to go.
9. Instead of tab locking into place, it becomes severely Loose making it impossible to keep adjuster in place and just lets it spin.
What am I doing wrong?
