OK guys, this spring we picked up a '78 F150 Stepside for my son who is 15. He's got his permit so we got this for us to work on to have ready to roll when he gets his license next March. It's kind of rough around the edges and it was drive-able when we bought it, but the second day we had it the rear end went out in it. We were both upset but had planned on going through it all anyway so we took it as a sign that it needed to be done anyway...
My Son-in-law, who lives with us is the lead on this project. He's a diesel mechanic and grew up tearing every type of motorized vehicle up (and down) and rebuilding them all. He can work on anything with a motor in it that rolls on tires or crawls on tracks. Right now, the plans are to get the rear end and springs redone. We got a locker and all new bearings ready to drop in and have to get the springs off and get them rebuilt. Last night my son took the bed off since I ordered a complete set of bushings for the truck. We've got to get the windshield replaced, a new seat inside, new wiring to the lights, dash working, some minor welding on the floor and a paint job. The front end and engine seem sound but we'll look closer at that after we get the rear end done. Here's a teaser pic...
