$32,000 is too much for an unproven electric vehicle IMO

For $10k difference in starting price, I think I'd rather get a less-slick Malibu and buy a LOT of gas.. and it'd take a lot to make up the difference in price..

For my wife's usage, that would be a perfect car. All short trips that never exceed 40 miles/day. At $0.02/mile, I'd buy her one.....after a couple years when the price drops and the bugs are worked out.

Same with my wife, I think the longest trip she takes is 15 miles.

Heck, even a loaded Malibu LTZ w/ sunroof, and the V6 is $2k less than the starting price of the Volt. $2k / $2.25 per gallon of gas (currently listed price for regular in my area) comes out to 889 gallons of gas. Multiple that by the advertised "combined" (city/hwy) mileage of 20 mpg for the V6 and you could buy the Malibu and drive it nearly 18k miles before you're even to the starting price of the Volt.. and you haven't even charged the Volt or bought gas for its on-board electric generator yet.. :dunno:

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
I don't like the .gov paying for such things, but 32k is a helluva lot better than 40k. If they could get her under 30k, they'd probably sell a lot of them.

Shit, Prius's were selling for a lot more than that, and the benefit was a lot less. :dunno:
