The reason they dropped the 4.2 was because the 2 valve 4.6 was getting the same fuel mileage as it and offered more power and torque. The 4.2 was also built in the Essex plant that they had slated for closing. There really wasn't a point in keeping the 4.2 under these circumstances.

You've got to love the interchangeability of GM trucks. Something us Ford guys really want.

Those trucks really are impressive. Whenever my 4.6 kicks the bucket, I plan on swapping in one of those new 6.2's and 6 speed tranny's.
