Looks like I've got a little extra spending cash after paying my bills for the month.
There's a few different things I could do with it, including a new portable ham antenna system I could make use of, or a few things for the vehicles.
I'll let you folks decide. :D2
The length of antenna you'd need closer to the cab would probably be a 48 or 60" fiberglass whip, just to clear the top of the cab by the required amount. The problem is going to be the mount/cover relationship. Those corner mounts don't lend themselves well to such things as bed covers, since...
You can try it, but because of the actual antenna length you'll probably just end up with high SWR again. You'd need a longer antenna in that location, so that at least 2/3 of the antenna is above the cab, for it to work.
That mount you have would never be one of my first choices. I don't...
Actually, I'm going to go one further and say change the coax completely and swap it for one with a PL-259 on each end. That mount is setup for a PL-259 connection underneath.
The reason I'm suggesting this is because water infiltration is the #1 enemy of coax and you have an open end there...
Okay, looking at the pics I have three suggestions:
Move it to the driver's side (less chance of it hitting someone on the curb or roadside trees/brush)
Run the coax down through the stake hole and then under the box rather than over it.
Change the coax for a longer piece if needed. (It's...
Just get a double ended SO-239 and use the jumper you already have.
And, just FYI, with the antenna mounted at that location you're going to have almost no signal to the left rear, but a good signal to the left front.
Here's a diagram illustrating how location affects signal:
Added a new pair of LED strobes to the hood, reprogrammed all the radios from my laptop, and watched the plane carrying Discovery circle overhead.

Re: The official pics of any INTERESTING vehicle thread
I see this one every few days when I go into town. It's parked in a spot where it's hard to pull off and get a picture of it though, unless you come from the other direction, which I don't do.
Oh, and it has a For Sale sign on it...
Re: Hit a deer
Okay Kyle, maybe you're not understanding this... You're supposed to get out of the truck and shoot 'em, not run 'em over.
Seriously, it might be time to stick some deer warning whistles on the front of that truck.
Nice photos Jim! I notice a few of the cars had some oil or fluid leaks under them though, and that kind of surprised me. I would think a museum like that would quickly fix things like that.
I also noticed what appeared to be a body on the floor, tucked behind the wheel of one of the cars...
