I'm about an hour away from drilling a four inch hole in the middle of my bed. I'm pretty mechanically inclined and don't sweat getting into my vehicles or house, but i'm not going to lie. when i picked up the hole saw last night and realized just how big it was, i got a little nervous about...

Yeah...i couldn't imagine towing our 10K trailer very far with a my 1500. Hence the Duramax ;) As far as fifth wheels go...i think this hitch would use up half the payload capacity of my 1500. this thing is a beast.! :)

The manufacturers actually make a few that they claim are 1/2 ton towable....they're *tiny*.

Gonna be a while...unless one of the dealers comes back with decent numbers, that's on hold, at least for this year. :) I think the dealer thought they had us with stars in our eyes about the upgrade, but I'm more than happy to walk away. We'll see if they reach out in the next couple weeks...

The rails create a problem with the other thing i use my truck for every year...pallets of wood pellets. fork truck forks are only so long, so they have slide the pallet the rest of the way in once they set it down...that's touch to do with rails across the middle of the bed :)

This is what I was thinking of based on what i had found so far and your suggestion: B&W companion I like that as I don't want rails in the bed when the hitch is out of the truck. As i'm not well versed in this stuff, I'm not sure what all the options are.

Oh no, I'm not doubting you that it would be fine. My situation is just on hold due to the offers from dealers being *insane*. numbers had been right, I would have been telling you guys about the fifth wheel hitch i had ordered this evening. :) This is the one we were looking to get into

This is all going to be moot for a while longer. The numbers on the deal aren't anywhere close, and i'm not in a hurry. :)

So, the gvwr isn't freaking me out, but the 2900lb pin weight is. Is it safe to assume that when the bikes are in the back, some of the weight ends up cantalevered off the pin? or am i smoking the good shit?

We went on a mini camping trip this weekend, so i finally got to pull with the truck. It did a great job of course, it's pretty amazing how much grade it'll take without even skipping a beat!

you definitely want fuel injection. less maintenance, less finicky to ride.

yep, that was pretty normal, and a bit more aggressive than usual at times :). I don't put a ton of stock in a single tank though, it'll be interesting to see how it play out going forward :)
