    How-To install a trans. temp gauge in a 95+ GMT400

I did a gauge install on mine too except it's digital. I was in a hurry when I did it so I have to go back and re do the wiring. Been about two years since I installed it. So you could say I've been procrastinating for a while.

I have an aftermarket remote start system, and an after market stereo. Both were installed by me and are fused. I'll double check that ground by the starter but I think it was good when I checked it last.

There is a fusible link on that alternator wire. In the underhood box there is a 50 today amp labeled bat.

ALL of them. Even the relays. Only thing that has worked was un hooking the large wire from the back of the alternator.

The meter is connected to bat new and neg cable. I read your can do either and that using the negative side is safer.

I'm having my brother bring his truck over and try his alternator. His truck is a 01 Tahoe. If it won't bolt on I'll figure out how to get "hooked up". To see if i can replicate it.

I would love a schematic. I got to talking to the guy and he described my garden issue as normal since the truck slows down when it dips. His alternator tester put the output at 125amps. He also tested for the draw and said the wasn't one. He said there might have been a capacitor charging up...

Well I was going to just bring the truck up here but it needs stickers to be legal.

They will if it fails their "test". But it passed. I'm taking the alternator to an actual alternator shop that comes highly recommend. So this way I can totally rule it out of the equation. All other grounds seem ok.
