Easier and quicker, just to swap out the whole thing, I'm betting your pinion gear bearing boss is messed up to, look on the front side of the rear end, see if it has a crack in it too..

Holly shit!!! It shattered the whole housing, the one that hold's the spider gears, looks like the end of the pinion to a hard hit too....

Nope, all that bolt does, is keep that bigger shaft in place, there is only centrifical (sp) force on the bolt.

Now that I see that picture, I would be looking for a single broken tooth, that got wedged between the end of that shaft, and the end of the pinion gear, I'm betting that hard hit on the end of the shaft, sheared that keeper bolt, then all hell came apart...:dunno:

That keeper bolt is made of hardened steel, you can put to much twist on it, and break it, like the last person that was in there, Ford 8.8 rear ends are know for loosing axle seals, and you have to remove that pin to get the seals changed, I have done it to both my F150, and Mustang GT..

[/IMG Hey, be careful, with that pin missing, if you keeper's fall off the end of your axle shaft's, they will shit out the side's, then you will have bent sheet metal to deal with too, don't be surprised, if that rear end isn't fixable, I would find out the gear ratio, and start looking for a...

Wow, the keeper bolt sheared, and let the spider gears shaft come out of the holder, thus, letting the spider gears go where they wanted to go, how many mile's on that rig, that is very unusual...:eek:

You are right on, and as for slipping, that is in the way you use it, all the ratchet type torque wrenches we have, have a locking feature, after you set the torque, I haven't messed with the new ones, next time I'm in sears, I'm going to have a look see!!
