My truck has the 5.3 with the iron block. Since I'm new to this engine style, is that better than 5.3 with the aluminum block or are they pretty much equal?

Had to go back dealer for something that escapes my mind. Big mistake. Ended up trading the F-150 and came home with this.

I am wanting to switch to synthetic oil when I change my oil. I only average maybe 5 miles a day and the engine very seldom gets to operating temp. So I am wanting maximum protection. What grade of Amsoil would be recommended ? I want this truck to last a long time.

I checked the timing on my truck today and it needs to be reset, however i can't get the hold down bolt loose. I don't have a distributor wrench or universal joint socket to get to it. Any ideas would be appreciated. It's a 95 Serria 5.0.
