I wish I had an Autocal. Then it would be so much easier. When I got it retuned, I had to drive all the way to Fort worth to meet up with him. I will have to do that again next time he's in Fort Worth.
Got it back from the transmission shop today.
:wookie:
The guy was bragging about how good it shifts and how firm the shifts are. But then I drove it and I was like "it shifts just like it did before":dunno:
But then I quickly thought "He must have never driven a Blackbear tuned truck before."
Not exactly sure. His exact words were that he will use "new updated stronger parts". When I asked specifically what was updated, he mentioned a new stronger sun shell and planetaries, but he didn't say anything about Kevlar clutches. :dunno:
He told me $2175 for everything. I talked to him for a while and we ended up striking a deal that he will charge me $2000 even, tax included. And that's with a 2 year warranty on the transmission, but no warranty on the rear end.
Rear end is fixed, and the transmission is definitely fucked. Looks like the spider gears locked up and when it did that, it locked up the drive shaft. And because I was accelerating when it happened, it tore up the transmission. What happened was basically the same thing as driving 45 MPH and...
Actually I did watch a few. And watching them makes me want to pay someone else to repair it.
I do a lot of my own repairs on my truck, but transmissions, differentials, and internal engine repairs are all out of my capabilities.
Everyone keeps telling me how cheap they can get it rebuilt for. :facepalm : But none of these places are local to me. For the money I would save going somewhere in Texas, I would spend more than than on traveling and towing expenses. Someone told me he knows a guy who will rebuild it plus R&R...
I was driving about 20-30 MPH when the shit hit the fan. Everything blew up when I hit the pedal to accelerate to get on I-20. I heard a lot of noise and banging, then lost Drive. So I slowed to a stop on the side of the road and looked under my truck to make sure I still had a drive shaft...
I'm confused too. But if I said 3rd, I made a mistake. Drive and 3rd didn't work at all, acted like neutral. Reverse, 2nd and 1st still worked but it kept banging every so often. Makes sense about spider gears cuz the banging was way worse turning a corner. But why would it not move in Drive or...
Just talked to the shop. He said my spider gears in the rear end are torn to shit. That needs to be fixed before he can even diagnose anything else.
Dropped it off today at a local shop. I did my homework and this place has positive reviews, one of which was froma guy I happen to know who had his wife's 01 Tahoe fixed there about 2 years ago. A member on another forum also recommended them. I should get a call tomorrow to let me know what...
I know exactly what you mean.
But what I'm worried about is if I get it rebuilt, will they only fix whats broken? I'd rather spend a little more and have all the internals replaced.
I'm wondering if I should have a shop rebuild it, or just buy a remanufactured one. I just looked on Rockauto, and I can get one shipped to my door for $1800, and if I ship my old one back, I get $400 back. But it would cost me $150-$200 just to ship the core back.
Whats an...
