You are right Cory.. it had air in it..
These Northstar engines in Cadillacs are bad about that too..
Check it again after you drive it a little...
But that is not putting a LOAD on the engine..
Have you run a compression check or a leak down test?
That does sound like a real overheating issue..
A bad head gasket can also leak combustion gases from the combustion chamber into the coolant.....
Does the temp actually go up or is it just the gauge SHOWING that it gets hot?
Does it get hot and boil over when driving it??

Actually it locks the ignition switch which in turn, locks the wheel.
Yep, starting 1988 (I think) they started using what they called a VATS key.
