LSX-Swapped Miata Terrorizes Targa Newfoundland Rally

Hey guys! I promised you a writeup on this car a while back, but I just haven't got around to putting it together. I guess you know how the story ends now. I'll still try to put it together, I've been developing that car for nearly 5 years. The car is a riot to drive. And super-quick - we were...

    LSX Oddity: LS1 into a ’72 MGB

I'll start a new thread with the Miata build. Probably this weekend, it'll take a while to tell that story. It's a long one that also starts with a bare shell.

Packaging, ironically. Lots of people stuff the Rover V8s in these cars, and as we've seen the factory started doing that nearly 40 years ago. But I had the chance to drive one, and it was just a bit weedy. Lots of noise and drama, but I think a stock 1.6 Miata would have killed it in a drag...

    LSX Oddity: LS1 into a ’72 MGB

Thanks for posting that over here, Hungus. I was going to stop in today to show the current pictures. It's still not finished, but it's getting pretty close. From the outside, all it needs is a bit of adjustment to the ride height (did that last night when I stuffed in some stiffer springs) and...

The car was not at its best when you guys first came across it. I wouldn't have had good things to say about it based on those pictures either!

The Rover engine was available in the US in Discoveries and Range Rovers up until 2004. It eventually got punched out to a 4.6, and was the basis of a bunch of tuning companies in the UK. Small size and very light weight make it a good choice for small sports cars, and there are a lot of MGs...

    LSX Oddity: LS1 into a ’72 MGB

Happy new year :) Dropping in for an update - probably the last one until I paint the car. But I thought you guys might enjoy a peek under the car. I got it on a lift for the first time. It was built on jackstands. I also dropped it on the scales. 2378 lbs with an almost-full tank of gas...

As promised (threatened?), here's what the car looks like with some fender flares. These are steel, taken off an early Rabbit. They're just shot with black primer right now and I haven't done any finishing work other than grinding the welds down a bit, but it should give an idea on the future look.

Sell them when I'm done? How could I? It would be like selling a child. Although I'm pretty sure that's illegal. All of the project cars are still part of the family. You can find them all at SlowCarFast.com. Here's a rundown in chronological order. There are a couple of others that weren't...

    LSX Oddity: LS1 into a ’72 MGB

Given the look of the car when LSXtv picked it up, that would be a pretty easy assumption to make! It looked pretty rough, not how I would have chosen to present it to the world. There's not going to be a lot of progress over the next week or two, but I'll pop back in when I have the front...

The drivetrain is pretty much together and finalized. Of course, there's still detail work to be done like cleaning up the wiring and adding a bit more clearance for the exhaust in a couple of locations, but nothing major. Just the sort of stuff that becomes apparent during shakedown testing.

I've got the rear fender flares on now - looks a bit better! They're just bare metal right now which over-emphasizes them a bit, but they look great in person. By the way, just so I fit in a little bit - the parts runner for this project is a Dodge 2500 with a 6.7 Cummins in it. I'm not all...

Mark, it's not going to look any more like a Gremlin than Pininfarina felt it should :) The only external cues will be those fender flares, and they're not going to be overt. I think they'll suit the shape of the car much better than the factory "Sebring" blobs did. I'm planning to change out...

    LSX Oddity: LS1 into a ’72 MGB

Hey guys, I'm the builder of the MG. Someone pointed me to this thread, and I figured I'd clear up a couple of misperceptions. The pictures you're looking at aren't the finished product. They're from the very first time the car moved under its own power. Obviously, there are still a few...
