Re: Wheels - Time for some changes - UPDATE: Fuels it is! ?
^Sure is.
Ok, so found another local pcoater, looked at some of his stuff. Only thing is it appears he runs with the ricer crowd.
As long as he does good work, and it appears he does. Just don't want to get back purple and white rims.
Besides coating over curb rash and the UGLY wheel design, his masking job looks ok, not perfect but pretty good. Looks like he masked off the lip from the face, and the rim edge too.
Wants $150 per wheel, that's the going rate to do two colors, I would do the simpler of the two designs, not taking a chance with bad masking with the more detailed concept. The brand new wheels will have to be stripped, blasted and recoated. Nobody is going to be willing to coat over crappy powder. Apparently all wheel companies just powdercoat right over the smooth cast finish which would explain why people complain about new wheels chipping easily, including the infamous BMF flat black wheels.
Maybe flat black is too flat? That color on that wheel is flat black according to the powdercoater, Maybe I should go with Black Magic, it might be slightly less flat than that. What does everyone think? Or would the flatter finish look best. I guess it's the photo coloring that is throwing me off.
