While I was waiting for a brake hardware kit, I decided to go ahead and install my back up camera.
This is not a hard install but it is a little time consuming and tedious. The kit I ordered from gmbackupcameras.com (ebay seller) has great instructions and quality parts. It comes with almost every thing you need. If you are installing to use with a factory NAV unit, you will have to have a Lockpick, which I installed a couple years ago. I am very please with the over all out come.
Removed tailgate bezel
Then removed the tailgate
Used a center punch to before drilling and 11/16 hole in the tailgate and the back of the bed. The kit includes grommets to fit holes.
Installed the new bezel with camera and ran cables out the hole I just drilled.
Next I ran the video cable to the front of the truck following the tail light wiring. Sorry no pics here. I was laying under the truck and space was limited.
You do have to drill a hole in the firewall to run the cable under the dash. This involved tearing a few panels off and moving the main fuse block out the way.
Removed my factory trim to get to lockpick where the video cable with plug in.
Remove NAV unit
Then plug the cable in and buttoned everything back up. I power the unit by tying in to the reverse light wire.
You do have to have the dealer reprogram you Nav unit to recognize the camera and turn on when it is in reverse.
If anyone is interested and has more questions. Send me a PM. I learned a few things I would do again and change.
