454 BBC

Got the crank(nodular) back to day and droped off the heads(781). So far iv yanked this 454 out of a 1975 3/4 ton fully loaded heavy duty camper special-Striped it down-had the block bored 30 over, new cam an freeze plugs done(156.00) Crank turned(95.00) Head job quote 500.00 more or less. I keep tranny fluid on everything and wraped up in bags. After heads are done in about two weeks(machinest is busy)I be looking to get pistons pressed off rods worked and arp bolts(200.00) I will take some pics of the heads when i get them back...I am going to keep all receipts an post cost...and take pics as i go. I go take some pics of the crank tomorrow but Here is a pic of the Block...

I can't seem to make up my mind just yet either the 63 chevy stepside or the 78 nova.What ya think? Nova is lighter about 700lbs but the 63 has a just rebuilt 400 tranny with stage two kit with everything brand new and all up grades an has 373 gears this is the engine in the 63 now

I say the '63. Sounds like the truck is already built to control the power. That and that engine bay has extra room.

Yea...with those gears id be running around 3000rpm at 60mph that would'nt be to bad and i like the solid frame thing on trucks. The 454 is just going to be a mild build with mods-it be a 5800rpm engine an going to put a LUNTIA cam in it but still should be near 500hp. The nova has a 383/350 tranny-3.08 gears runs 2500rpm at 60 just thought those gears be easier on it being a bbc...Id have to get tranny rebuilt to if i went with the nova-it works fine now but it's just a stock reg. built tranny.It would take or add about 70hp either way i go...i know a guy who has a nova with a 454 like mine and with motor alone runs mid 10. Im looking for it to be strip/street either way though...

Yes its 30 over and it is a 454 2 bolt block with a nodular crank and 781 large oval port heads---block says high performance on it and a guy told me it was made out of a stronger casting metal?---Plans are LUNTIA cam up to 5800rpm. Nothing special in the build just back to stock form with a few mods.
