Ok, I need some input from you guys.
My friend just had her 2000 Tiburon overheat on the highway, and the engine is toast according to the shop it's sitting at (I haven't seen the car, I still want to take a look at it and see what's up).
She's going to buy a new car this summer anyway, and I'm trying to figure out what the best way to proceed is.
Current blue-book on the car (with a good engine
) is about $2500.
Options:
1) Sell car as is, probably for no more than a grand.
2) Donate it for a tax break, not sure how much that would be.
3) Replace the engine. I found a couple in the area for between $200 and $350, I could do the work with my friends for essentially free (we like working on shit, and it's summer
), then sell the car, say for 2 grand.
For a car that's worth so little, I think just cutting losses and ditching it will probably be the best option, but I figured I'd ask you guys what you thought.
