Need a good highway tire for my C20

Well, I posted the question: should I go with 235/85/16 (stock) or should I go with 265/75/16 on 67-72chevy trucks (has a 73-87 subforum)

Got one vote so far for 275/65. But then got a vote for the stock size from a guy with a C20 Suburban. Said the 275/65's would look better on a 7 or 8" wheel anyway....(dont know the width of my wheel yet) he said they might balloon and wear out the middle.

I've got more research to do, because I really want a wider tire. I do think it would look better than the skinny tire on it now.

Our wheels are 16x6.5 with a 8x6.5 lug pattern.
These are pretty narrow by today's standards, but that "pizza cutter" keeps my 2wd truck going in the ice and snow no problem, with little highway road noise.

If you are going to do a 265-75 you must use a 7 or 8 inch width rim according to tirerack.com.

So it seems as though I have no choice.

If I ain't mistaken the HD wheels are also 6.5" wide and plenty of guys run 285's w/o a problem.

Oh hell yes. There are so many of those wheels out there. Many guys are runing 285s.

It isn't recommended to run a 285, but damn there was an 8 year run on those wheels, and they are everywhere. I had 285s on mine. I put 40,000 on some Firestones without issue. Great tires, I was loaded very heavy.

When I was in high school I worked at Les Schwab and I hooked my grandpa up with some Toyo HT's and he has put over 80 thousand highway miles on them and they still have over half tread left no joke On a lighter Ford Ranger but still, thats darn impressive.

You can use which ever wheel you like, I have gone both ways, the 265 is a 1\2in. shorter but 1in. wider. You can easily put 265's on the 6.5in. wide wheels, the '01-'07 3\4ton trucks have 16x6.5in. wheels and lots of guys stuff 285's on them, not smart and way to wide but the 265's look and work great, having said that I would put the 235's back on your stock wheels as you will get better mileage, longer tire wear, and less sidewall flex. The 265's seem to be about $5-$10 cheaper per tire and more available.
