Don't know why they didn't TT the 5.0 right off the bat instead of a 6. Only 16/22 MPG's out of 6 cylinder is the reason why they turn me off so much.

You guys DO realize how much power this engine makes AND the fact that it's planted in a 5000 pound brick right?

Until aerodynamics are improved and a lot of weight is cut, the fuel mileage is not going to improve much in a full sized truck.

Physics.

I was hoping for better #'s, regardless of what it's going in.. If it can't produce better improvements in that application, how will it do much better (improvement-wise) in applications for the Edge, etc..? :dunno:

Nobody has a magic wand. The Edge is a TON more aerodynamic (and lighter), so I'd imagine the numbers would change a lot. I really doubt Ford would install a beast engine in the edge anyway... but a smaller displacement (say 2.5 liter) boosted model would be really interesting.

It's also the first year of it... That's usually the worst year...

If they really wanted to they could've slapped a twin turbo 4-banger in there and it would get the same gas mileage

Honestly Michael... MPG has not been a main thrust of the car biz for a long time. As you know, product design cycles are sometimes many years in the works. They are scrambling right now for sure, but real results are probably a few years away.

A 4 cylinder Subaru Wagon gets a whopping 20 mpg real world according to owner reports... even less over on Fueleconomy.gov.

I know MPG has not been a main thrust, but that has been a theme through the videos and other press Ford has been putting out there.. IMO, the #'s don't live up to what they were "indicating" they "could" be..

Maybe when "EcoBoost II" comes out, it'll be more in line with what some of the press and implications had indicated.. 'Til then, I doubt I'll be putting my money down on an EcoBoost anything.. :dunno:

As for those "owner reports," I've seen nearly 30 out of my 6 (coming back from Utah.. nearly 500 miles on a single tank of gas).. So.. :dunno:

The owner reports I am talking about are real world averages with mixed driving. No doubt they can be beaten on an all highway trip.

Yeah.. Depends on how you drive 'em and what kind of traffic you're in.. I usually see around 22 or so in town.. But, that's with a good bit of freeway driving..
