yea the jeeps do surprise you, hell give your wifes liberty a try as well, they do a bit better then the commander because of the shorter wheel base, they will surprise you as well. I took my old liberty off roading a few times and it can go some places you would have never thought it could.

Jeeps are great machines

The Liberty only has the Command Trac-II system.... it's not anywhere in the ballpark of the Qudra Trac-II that's in the Commander.

The QD system uses brake pressure to stop the wheels from spinning as they lose traction and has automatic electronically controlled lockers in both front and rear diffs. When the wheel spins the locker engages and stays engaged for at least 90 seconds.

The CT system in the Liberty is just like every other 4wd system on the market. Doesn't do anything special with the brakes and no lockers... but i think the rear is a LS carrier. If those tires go up in the air it'll be SOL.

Here's one with the 4" superlift and disconnected sway bars. I'd like to see this guy do what that silver jeep did in the video.... i bet it'd look badass

Nice to see that the Commander is actually a capable Jeep. Looks like it got the good stuff indeed. I pretty much lost faith in Jeep after they bastardized the Wrangler in 07. I already see dead ones at auction. The V6 isn't holding up well... NOTHING like the bulletproof 4.0 in the previous Wrangler. They have replaced the V6 with an updated version in recent years. Hopefully with a little more success. Jeep was going through transition number 6 in the late 2000s.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a direct injection version of the pentastar V6 in the next 5-6 years.

Someday down the road, when our infants are little kids, we'd like to change up the Liberty for a 4 door wrangler (much more fun for beach trips and stuff). There's already rumors of turning the new V6 into DI... :fingersx:

Jeep depends on the Wrangler for half of its profits. You can bet they will get it right again. I've been a huge Jeep fan for years. Everybody stumbles, but they won't let us down.

I couldn't be happier with the Commander though... i don't think there's another SUV on the market that even comes close to its capabilities (except for the Land Rovers which use a very similar 4wd system).

I knew what it was capable of "on paper". But to actually see it in action like that is an eye opener.... especially since its not some staged and edited "Jeep Inc." commercial.

Pretty slick video! I'm looking at possibly getting Jeep Grand Cherokee pretty soon with the Quadra Trac II system and it seems fairly capable (more capable than I'll probably ever use). Don't want the Quadra Drive II because the air lift suspension is a huge turn-off for me. Been tried for years but the reliability has never been there. Also can do with out the actual limited slip diff since the ABS controller has been determined to be a pretty capable limited slip itself. Using the brakes as a limited slip substitute (no substitute for good ol' lockers) is currently being done by most manufactures and not just Jeep though.
