Comanches are rare (but extremely cool). You'd be much better off finding a 98-01 Cherokee 2 door. If you DO find a decent Comanche, you can expect to pay quite a bit for it. They stopped making them in 1992 I believe... so many are rusted to death by now and the better HO 4.0 engines didn't come to be until 1996.
K, so scratch the Comanche as a beater... so how much for a 98-01 2 door cherokee 4x4 4.0? Hell I'd even take a clean 4door like you had.

Around here a decent condition 4x4 Cherokee is in the 3500 - 6500 range depending on condition. Since Jeep went away from the die hard 4.0 inline six and went with the terrible V6 engines, the older ones are actually bringing more money than they did two years ago... and nice ones are getting harder to find.

The Cherokee can be built into a seriously reliable 4x4 daily driver without breaking the bank.

Jim, how many miles would be comfortable with when buying a 96-01 Cherokee. 125,000? 150,000?:dunno:

Sorry Carl.

I would be more toward the 3500 range. I want something I can DD but don't care if it has dents or scratches. I would put a 3" lift and some bigger tires on it and leave it.

I like the idea of under 75K. Obviously they are harder to find with those miles but they do exist. I've seen 125K Cherokees that I would drive cross country though... and I;ve seen many with well over 200K on the clock that are wheeled regularly. The 4.0 is pretty bulletproof. The AW4 trans is known to need building at around 150K, but like the 4L60E, that varies a LOT and some last into the 200s.

Carl.

I'd think your biggest concern up there north of the arctic circle would be rust. Cherokees are unibody construction, but it's a seriously strong unibody setup as long as the rust hasn't eaten it up.

Oh for the right price I would travel anywhere. I would prefer to find one in the south. :tmc:
