So I have some pretty bad dings on my truck from the previous owner. I wanted to get a truck within my price range and I did. But at the same time I'll be paying for it too. I have a bad ding on the driver door, one on driver side bed (right under the bed rail) and a bad wound on the tailgate & two scrapes on the bumper (those don't bother me)

So I went to my local autobody shop to get some paint to smoke my taillights. They can't sell me paint b/c the don't have a retail license. They are a good shop and the other 3 shops in town are gone now, so they're the last ones left.

Well I got all the problems except for the bedrail ding quoted. What do y'all think? It's a hell of a lot more money than I expected:

All Prices are after Tax

Front Door- $866.79

Tailgate- $664.03

Bumper- $326.28

He said it would all be cheaper if I did it all at the same time. But I figured I'd see what it cost to seperate all of them. The two the bug me the most are the door and tailgate since I notice those every day walking to the truck. But I've thought of line-xing the rocker panels b/c it's cheaper. This will never be a show truck though. So I'm not too worried about the paint, I just hate big dings like this :fume:

Thoughts? :dunno:

Geeeeeez thats expensive. I too had a bunch of small dents and dings on the Silvy and had my buddy quote me for the work at his body shop. He said it would be around $800 total if fixed by him but he would call in a paintless dent removal guy to take a look and quote me. Calls me back a few days later and tells me it was $220 and that all of the dents were gone and fixed! He just went ahead and got them fixed, I was already willing to spend the $800 so getting the work done cheaper was a no-brainer.

Look into the paintless dent removal companies in your area, one of the big ones is DentPro. Couldn't hurt to get a quote from them.

Yeah, I have some damage on my truck as well. It bugs the shit outta me, but I just can't afford to have it rapired right. The messed up thing is, my wife caused it all! :fume: I have a dent on the bottom corner of my drivers door because she dicide to back my truck up under the carport, but had the door open and clipped the pole. Then one day while we were out at the deer lease, I was riding my ATV off in the woods and she was driving my truck. I told her not to take my truck off any of the gravel roads since its only 2wd and I knew it would probly get stuck. So not only does she take it off road, she drove down a frikkin narrow 4wheeler trail and had tree limbs and brush scraping all along the hood and the passenger side fender, and some on the passenger doors too. Most of that can probably be buffed out though if I ever get a good buffer and discs. Then theres a dent/scratch in the rear passenger quarter panel cloise to the rear bumper. It lines up with a hinge on the gate into the back yard. I honestly don't know who did that one, me or my wife. :dunno: I just noticed the damage one day when I was washing my truck. I got some estimates on everything at a body shop. They said 1300 on the drivers door (they claim it needs a new door or at least a new doorskin) and 700 on the quarter panel, 600 on the hood (they said it needs to be repainted) and 500 to buff out the pasenger side of the truck. Being that this is mu daily driver and the damage isn't what I'd call "severe" I probably wont ever get it fixed unless I repaint the whole truck. :dunno: Which they also gave me a quote on as a matter of fact, for 3800 to repaint the whole truck not including the door jambs and to go with the same color.

My biggest problem around here there are no franchises. I will look into paintless dent repair but that will only work on the bedrail. The driver door is a big dent that takes over the whole rocker panel. It has some chipping paint on the very bottom :frustration:

I'll get some pics up later.

BTW ED, your damn sig pissed me off I thought I had a bug on my screen

Those are not good PDR candidates. The tailgate might come out OK.

There is paint turing white there it's through the clear coat

He said a new tailgate was $850, that sounds high to me
They're only a couple of seconds at the mall parking lot.:ninja:

Yes I'm only kidding, I don't endorse stealing.:jester:

Tailgate is perfectly fixable. I'd estimate around 350-400 bucks with refinishing. If they want 850, I'd move on to another shop for sure.

The door damage is the worst of it. A good bodyman could make that go away though.

He wants $664 for the tailgate. I had a guy on the other forum that wanted $200 for his but he was in CA :frustration:

The door is the one that bothers me the most

What do y'all think Line-X would look like on the truck, it would be a easy way to get rid of that blemish. not to copy dan or anything I just don't wanna fork over major cash for it
