You did get a P0420 DTC correct?

That was the only DTC? No upstream codes? Noticing a loss in power?


You stated you had to put in some coolant. So are you loosing coolant? If you recently had the head gasket fixed, was the head and block checked for warpage? A plugged cat could cause some heating ,but not like you are saying.

When my cat was plugged enough to stall out my engine (and prevent it from running above 300 RPM) right before I stalled out, my engine was running maybe 10*C higher than normal... At the absolute most... So not a major contributor to overheating.

im not sure of the number im gonna try and get that a little later. no loss in power.

no just coolant that went into the overflow tank.

block wasnt checked due to lack of time and funds

Was the block flushed when the gasket was changed? You may have some crud getting into the passageways, or the thermostat is clogged.

Like Dennis said, a clogged cat will only cause a little overheating. Worse case your head is warped.

i guess i could try flushing it.

could it be mabye something is getting clogged around the no.1 cylinder therefore causing the code and overheating?

My Tahoe Cat is going out Its making a crazy sound and im running a little bit hotter. Did yours make a sort of clanking sound before it clogged. I thinks its from I got stuck in water up to the pedals.
