Ok everyone, a quick question for any oil gurus out there. Will 10W-30 Mobil 1 synthetic oil be fine for my 07 Silverado (4.8L with 50K)? The reason I ask is because on the filler cap it says to use 5W-30. My dumb arse went out and got one of the big jugs at WalMart ($21 and some change) and got 10W-30 instead. Well I can't return it or exchange it because I lost the receipt. I want to get the oil changed on it tomorrow but hesitant to use it until I can get some feedback.

Thanks.

You should be able to exchange it without a receipt as long as they carry both in identical containers. Tell them you had your wife pick it up and she tossed the receipt but bought the wrong stuff.

Trying to return it for cash without the receipt would be a problem, exchanging it should be fine.

I'd swap it. Especially during the cooler months. Cold starts need the lighter 5W.

The 10w30 should be fine unless its below freezing where you are. 10w is only fine in warmer climates, since it would get too thick in the cold.

Ok, I will try that first thing tomorrow morning.

Worst case scenario I can't exchange it, I'll save it and use it in the summer months.

Not worth possibly risking cold start oil issues for a gallon of oil. I bet they will exchange it.

Your method worked like a charm! I went this morning to swap it out, got home and got the oil changed right away.

I also got my Airaid MIT installed just after the oil change, I got a smokin deal on it and couldn't be happier with the buy.

Good deal! It's always nice to hear when a situation works out in our favor!

Good call on the MIT also; that's the smartest way to go, IMO!
