This will be over a couple of years so nothing will be immediate but I just want to get your opinions of what direction I should take my truck. This is not an unlimited budget so I am trying to keep it on the cheaper side. I don't want to buy things twice, so I need to pick a direction. I know i'll need a built trans and different rear but lets just focus on the engine combo.
My end all truck I want to be around 500- 550 rwhp and hopefully run mid 11s in the quarter mile. Would like it to be very driveable so no big cams or huge converter. There are different ways to get there, whether it be N/A or FI. This is where I want to get your opinions. I am still a noob at this stuff so criticize all you want

1) 5.3 full bolt-ons plus 220ish cam, get my heads worked a bit, 3200-3400 verter, and to get me the rest of the way, do a 125-150 shot of the giggly juice. I would think this is the cheapest way to get to my goal.
Cons- Won't have the power all the time, have to fill bottles.

2) 5.3 but go with a TVS 1900 Magnacharger. Would have to get a FI friendly cam but could use an LS6 cam to lower costs. Run as much boost as needed. Won't need as big of a verter. Maybe run a meth kit but could also run E-85.

3) LS2 or LY6/L76. A Gen IV 6.0 Run L92 heads with a small-med size cam. If I go this route, I would do forged internals for reliability and longevity. Should get me to 450rwhp and would need a 75 shot to get me to 525ish.

4) go big or go home- Go with one of the Gen IV 6.0, add magnacharger for boosted 6.0. Most expensive route but this combo wont be working as hard to make my goal as the boosted 5.3 but requires money.

5) your option. Let me know what you would do.

If you're going to go big..why not do everything listed in #4 but with the 6.2 instead. :dunno:

Just for the fact that it is not needed. A 6.0 liter is plenty for what I am wanting plus a pull out 6.2 is fawkin expensive. A boosted 6.0 will make way more than what I need.

Without a doubt #4!!

Let me tell you from experience. You will want more power! Horse Power is like a drug. You will always want more. Your initial goals will never be your final goals.

Since you're not in a hurry, you can start looking now and keep your eye out for a good deal and spread out the cost.

Yeah you are going to hear from guys saying...Don't under estimate the 5.3 or 4.8...They can make a ton of power...They like to twist... To that I say Blah, Blah, Blah! You have a heavy truck and want good, dependable, streatable power. You WANT cubic inches.

There is no replacement for displacement. Yeah the 4.8's like to twist. So do the 6.0. My gen IV 6.0 loves to rev it is pulling like a beast at 6000, plus it's got more bottom end then a 5.3. The heads on the new 6.0/6.2 are awesome. They are some of the best flowing heads GM has ever produced and will love either NOS or a Maggie.

I say swap in a built 6.0, and drive it like that for a while. Then when you can afford it, got FI ((I'm a fan of turbos :D).
