I'd shop all of the brands, there are far more options than just Ford and Chevy/GMC.
I won't drive a Toyota that's for sure. I am looking for Chevy and GMC only.

OK, well, good luck then.
I won't buy another GM until I see more evidence of improved quality.
I bought my wife a 2017 Ford Escape a year ago and so far it has been flawless. My truck spent more time at the GM dealership for the first 2 years of its life than in my garage. hasn't been much better since to be honest. Lifelong GM customer, but they lost me with the past few cars/trucks I have owned...at least for now.
I would not buy a Toyota either, but Ford, Mazda, Honda, Subaru all make nice small SUVs that I'd bet are far more reliable than the GM twins.
Just my .02
The Outback isn't bad at all. Last one I was in, wasn't as roomy as the Enclave/Acadia/Traverse, however.

You'll be sitting up really high while riding in the tow truck or flatbed on your way to the GM dealer.
OK, fine, I'll stop now.

Just because they hate you, doesn't mean they hate everyone else, lol
