Driving the burb and a message pops up on the display to service power steering. Well I can say that it is a major PITA to steer.

I'm no weakling and turning into a parking spot takes all I can to turn it. I understand the need to improve vehicles and get more power and economy from a vehicle but the old hydraulic PS was pretty reliable.

There is no way I would be able to avoid a collision if one popped up in front of me. This is a serious issue.

So an FYI for everyone, if yours goes out be prepared to get a serious arm workout. I looked at the fuse panel and I didn't see any thing listed as power steering. So no sure what fuse to check.

Double check the connections, just in case... But for that system, it'll be a j-case fuse, one of the extra large ATO style fuses, or a circuit breaker reset somewhere... I don't think GM would use a fusible link for that.

On the 1ton vans they have hydro-boost which uses the power steering to boost the brakes.

The only thing more fun than losing your power steering is losing your brakes as well.

Dropped it off this morning. The service writer when out to move it and came in and told the other young service writer guy to go move it. She couldn't move the steering wheel.

Not sure what is causing it. But what I do know that when it sits for a while and is cold it works fine. Then after driving it a while it goes out. So it seems to be heat related.

They put me in a 2017 Malibu LS with push button start and auto stop. Interesting to say the least. Good economy, got 40mpg coming home on the 25 mile drive. Not bad power for a little four banger in that size of a vehicle.

I always raised hell when they gave me a less than comparable auto for loaner vehicle, especially when it was my 07 LMM. They tried to give me an Aveo and I told them, if I bring you a truck that you have to make right then give me a truck until you get it right... They gave me a tahoe to drive, close enough! ha ha

An update to this, the dealer called and said that they have to replace the steering gear. Of course it is on national back order but they located one from another dealer. Talking to MS3DALE this isn't an issue from what he can see. So if that is the case then why is the part on national back order? At least they found the problem and it is a good fix, I hope.

He is doing well. I stay in touch with him. He is coming down to NC to go to the Auto Fest at the Charlotte Motor Speedway here in a few weeks. He makes a trip down here about 5 times a year. Some for the race at Charlotte.
