Hello folks,

So we're pretty much decided on buying a 30 foot toy hauler. GVWR between 9.5 and 10k. This is right at/slightly over the limits of the current rig. I'm not interested in playing the upgrade game with the current truck, so why not buy a new truck too. I'm looking at 2500HDs, and I'm having the age old debate of gas vs. diesel. The 6.0 gasser is more than capable of pulling the trailer, but I know the Diesel will be more composed while pulling it. Someone please tell me I don't need the $9k upgrade to tow this package and be happy. I doubt very much that there will be anything larger than this on the horizon, trailer wise, and everything else I tow with the current truck is well below that gvwr.

I'd stick with a gasser unless you plan on pulling that thing everyday. :dunno:

THIS.

Unless you want us to encourage the diesel. Wink wink. :stir:

Cool, the gasser is pretty much where my head (and wallet) is at. Just mostly trying to avoid the "shit i should have gotten the diesel" 9 months from now. The more i look into the 2500s though, the 6L really isn't falling that short of the diesel, until you start towing a LOT.

Also...I appreciate your willingness to convince me to drop ten grand if that's what I was looking for. However, my wife would like to have a word with you. ;)

I would recommend driving them both. I went and test drove a GMC 2500 with the 6.0 last week...and I was really disappointed with the performance. My 15 year old daughter was with me, and as we left the dealership, she said "man that truck was gutless, when you got on it all it did was make noise". I had to agree.

I can speak to this.
I was a long time advocate of the gas engine, and for the few thousand miles of towing per year, it did fine.

Now, listen...

If you are planning a toy hauler with a 10k GVW, the reality is you are going to overload it. Don't say you won't.

If hills are a lot of your camping plan, the diesel is much less stressful on you at the end of the trip. A tuned 6.0 will spend the bulk of its towing life at 4K

If you can afford it, go diesel. If not, you will be fine brother
