As some may know, I suffered a pretty bad "annulment" in 2011. The crap still carries on, but another story. As part of what I considered freedom, I decided its time to try to go fast and keep my self occupied. Why not put a blower on a heavy ass 3/4 ton brick? My goal is to shoot for 700hp at the wheels, without blowing stuff up and keeping the sleeper look.

Grab a snickers and get ready for a long post.

So we'll get started on what it cost for this mid-life crisis. I over engineer things, so you really do not need everything on the list. But if you plan on doing something like this it gives you a feel of what it actually can cost. Just because you bought a blower, etc there are other factors that can added to make it work. I actually bought a few more things, but changed my design(different gauges, exhaust, etc). It added to the cost, but since it wan't permanent to the build I left them out of the list.

This is just phase one. I plan to cam, heads, pulley down, and stall the transmission at a minimum for the next phase once I get my tuning down. Maybe stoke the engine out or get a bigger one.

I had more pictures, but my phone got wiped when that new IOS 7 came out. :fume:

:ohnoes::eek::ohnoes::eek::ohnoes::eek::ohnoes::eek:

First thing was to decide on what type of forced induction. Being a heavy brick, I want some grunt down low. This leaves Procharging out. I don't know all that much on Turbos, but learned a lot from reading and from a guy at work. Knowing what I know now, I'll have to build one on another vehicle. So this left positive displacement. Now which one; Roots, twin screw? I did a lot of reading and thought that a twin screw would be a better choice. Plus no one wanted to come down on the price for a Magnacharger. Twin screw, runs cooler on IATs, better compression, less power consumption.

So after searching the world, I found one off Ebay from a Speed Engineering in March of '13. It was listed as new and about a grand cheaper than anyone. So I snatched it.

While waiting on this, It was time to order a few other things that was on the list.
I built a fuse relay panel to make some wiring components easier. I already did the big 3 a while ago when I put in my amp. It is powered up when the ignition is on. Thanks to J-rod for helping me find a switch hot source.:jrod:

Valentine One, so I can have an extra eye out for speed traps. I ran some power wire up in the roof and hard wired it in.

Then need some exhaust. I originally bought dome Doug Thorleys from :bbp:. I changed my mind when I did some figures and went a tad bigger with some Texas Speed 1-3/4" headers.

Then need the other end. Single exit to keep the stock-ish look. Has a nice rumble with the headers and Whipple. Only down side is the annoying drone in the cab.

And head off to the muffler shop to tye it all together.

Next is the HPTuner, Laptop, and mount.

I originally went with PLX for my gauges and installed them in a pillar pod. I ditched the pillar pod because I was tired of every Honda wanting to race when they seen it. Not stock-ish goal, so it had to go. I bought a spare dash, fiberglass, and paint. I don't have 4WD so I used the wasted useless cubby hole.

I been having some issues with my radio and purchased the PLX modules when I had the funds. While doing so, I had to pull the dash several times and just got quite annoying. So I removed the PLX stuff and replaced it with AEM. Not as customize-able, and better fitting, but they are still nice and will do the job.

The one area I didn't research properly were injectors. I didn't know that without the proper data, they would be a PITA to tune. On top of that I found that injector manufactures are very hesitant to hand that out. I know that now, as tuning have been a tad difficult. After a week of tweaking, I think I got it.

72lb'ers

I went ahead and purchased a 2Bar MAP, LS3 90mm DBW Throttle body as well as a X-link to get it going with my truck.

I did a bunch of porting and polishing in the TB.

Then the Whipple came in. I slapped the TB, injectors in, and made a bracket to hold the X-link.

SPOON FED

Then I sit and wait....and wait...and wait. I had to deal with my ex's issues, more court and attorney BS. Plus, scheduling some time off from work.

While waiting I ordered a cheap fuel pump assembly and a Walbro 400 off Sleezebay, as well as a hot wire kit from Racetronix. I got the pump at a good price and all I needed was the assembly. I went with an upgraded coolant tank from Trick Performance as this 1.5 Gal tank is a much better improvement of the 1 quart tank given with the Whipple kit. I also anticipated the worst and purchased some hoses and AN fittings from Jegs.

Everything came in.

Spent a few hours at work putting it all together. Building this now, means less down time when the pump was to come out. The quality of the Racetronix kit is top notch. (I lost some pics and don't have a pic of the complete product :( ).

I finally get some time off.....Right when it get F'n cold down here. I start pulling the beast apart right after the last day at 10Pm in 28* temps. Nice.

Last of this...

Yoink....

The only thing I disliked about the hotwire kit is that the relay is close to the pump instead in the engine bay.

All gone....

And now cleaned up.

Now to add an upgraded coolant tank from Trick Performance...excellent quality.
Took a bit 'o' cutting to the support bracket to fit.

Found out why I was loosing coolant. This Delco Chinese crap didnt last 6 months.

I'm missing pics because I didn't take a whole bunch. It was cold and the nightmare of installing the Whipple began.

As trying to shoehorn that heavy beast in, it was time to bolt it all down. Instructions state to torque all the allen bolts down to 106in pounds. Problem is that 4 of them are under the J-tube and took almost 2 hours alone to get a wrench in. Then turn them bitches 10-15* at a time. The rest, I guess I could of torqued them, but I said F' it and guesstimated all them. Once I got that in, the next round of cursing began. Not one F'n hose or wiring harness in the kit worked. This started the calls and emails to Whipple.

First off, you may of seen on the 'internets' that Whipple Superchargers has horrible customer service. I am going to tell everyone first hand, that it utter crap. They are quick to respond and have been the most helpful and knowledgeable about every issue or question I had.

Come to find out why I had been able to purchase my Whipple at a great price is that it is actually "used". Someone bought it to put it in a 1970 Chevelle with a LS, but changed their mind. It was never opened out the box or installed, but returned to Speed Engineering. This is where I snatched it. Jeff at Whipple had me take pics of the hoses and harness and came to the conclusion that Speed slapped in some hoses and harness from a 07'-12' GM truck. Totally different from a 04'-07'. They offered to send out replacements, but due to me being prepared, it wasn't necessary. I had purchased extra hoses and connectors from Jegs and already made everything work. I also made my own harness out to the coolant pump. I was missing some EVAP hoses, which are not service affecting, but needed. Jeff got them together and out to me in 2 days. Whipple has AWESOME service.

So more peektures.

All Buttoned Up.

I have a few minor problems to iron out. On is my fuel pressure is at 72lbs instead of 58lbs. I am thinking that the pump is slightly overpowering the FPR till WOT. It also throws my injectors off as now they are not 72lbs'ers, they are 90lbs'ers. Way more than I need. This and not having the correct injector data are making fueling a PITA to tune. I also noticed that my o-ring on my pump assembly must of not sealed. I went and fueled up and gas overflowed at a full tank. I'll fix that at work next hitch as we have a forklift to make removing the bed cake.

Given my fuel pressure, I didn't install the BAP yet. My logs show my fuel pressure dropping from 72 PSI to 60's at WOT. So I'll have to put it in and see how it goes. If it doesn't work out, I'll redo my fuel design and go return style.

I've been tuning all week and have most of the fueling under control. I am adjusting my VE tables and should have it dialed in soon. Then work on my airflow and spark.

Pulled my plugs and they don't look bad given my fueling problems.

So phase one is pretty much complete. The tuck is 10 years old now with 108K on the clock. I have maintenance schedules next and need to tackle oil, transmission, and probably ball joints. I bought some used heads I will upgrade, try to port, and get flowed. I already got my cam and converter spec'd out by Patrick G in Texas and Chris with Circle D.

Stickerz add HPs. They stay on the inside. Out of site out of mind, plus T would have a heart attack if they were all in the back glass. Plus, wouldn't keep the sleeper look.

Some folks might be happy if I had a heart attack but you're right, it's much better this way! :D
