I have my eye on something and wanted to see if anybody could give input, good or bad, about the 1999 Chevrolet 454 engine.

It's in a dually with an automatic, I don't know the miles yet since I'm just creepin on this deal. :uhoh:

I had a 98 2500 I thought was cool until I traded it for my 2500 with an 8.1 :D

A friend of mine has a 2000 C3500 with a 7.4 he has used for work since day one. The damn thing still has plenty of balls and over 200K on it.

Love 454s  Yeah they suck gas but they're very good at hauling heavy loads.Throw a blower on one like Clancy did and you'll get a woodie

Thanks guys, yeah I know it will eat gas. But I'm not looking for a Prius. :D

Just wondered if there where any inherent problems with that year engine. I had a 98 3500 but it had a 350, and ate gas. Had a '01 8.1, and it ate gas.

You're going to stick a 454 in a Prius? That's going to be awesome! :willy:

IIRC all the GenVI(maybe GenVs as well) big blocks had four bolt mains and one piece rear main seal,a good thing

Mine has almost 170,000 on it and still runs strong, uses very little oil and runs cool at operating temp even in 100* weather with the A/C blasting.
