Ok, your scenario goes a lot more tinfoil hat than I thought you were talking about.

IMO, there were too many variables involved for them to think all of that would've actually worked out unless NASCAR is scripted and they somehow "knew" it would work out in their favor.. :paranoid: :jester:

That would've all gone out the window if Newman's team hadn't screwed-the-pooch on that last pitstop..

Race audio offers inside view of final Richmond laps

Brian Vickers audio
(With four laps to go)
Crew: "We're probably going to pit here on green."
Vickers: "Are you talking to me?
Crew: "Yeah, we're going to pit."
Vickers: "What? I've got to pit? … I don't understand. Pit right now?"
Crew: "You've got to pit this time. We need that one point."
Vickers: "10-4. Do I got a tire going down?"
Crew: "Yeah. … Come down pit road right now, get a good look at it."
Vickers: "Did you find anything?"
Crew: "I'll see you after the race, Brian. I owe you a kiss."

pause @44 sec on this video and you can see Bowyer on pit road
NASCAR Final Laps of the Federated Auto Parts 400 | Richmond (2013) - YouTube

I don't care enough to belabor the point that flippin' much..

I never have cared for Newman anyway. So, him in or out is no skin off my nose. Jeff Gordon hasn't run well enough either to really make a solid run in the Chase, either. So, I don't think him being in or out makes a difference either.

ONE MORE SPOT for either of them at one of the previous 25 races would've got 'em in. So, it may "seem" like it all came down to what Bowyer did. But, if they had run better earlier in the season, Bowyer / MWR's actions wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

You want in? Run better. You want to NOT be in the position that a team could knock you out of the Chase by some of THEIR strategies? Run better.

What else am I supposed to do today? No race, lawn is cut and I'm not too interested in football (especially when it's this warm out) :D

You've got a valid point, nothing MWR did last night was going to knock JJ out of the chase ;) If someone gets in, somebody has to come out. MWR had someone in the pits banging hard on their calculator to figure this all out and it paid off.

Probably there will be a fine and some owner points lost.

Well, going back my tinfoil hat comment earlier, I find it "interesting" that one of the announcers in the post race coverage said "you could see on the video where Bowyer yanked the wheel." But, the version of the video they showed had the video act like it "dropped out" for a second, JUST as Bowyer would've been yanking the wheel. By the time the video started going again, he was already in the spin and had turned hard right, until the spin.. So, I can see where someone could make a case for NASCAR "not wanting people to KNOW" what "really" happened.. :dunno: :paranoid:

Since I was at the race and tire smoke was coming from his car on turn 3 where we were sitting and then seeing him spin out on turn 4. I believed it to be just a flat tire. By the time he came around again to go into the pits it was breaking apart. Not as bad as JJ's flat though, it actually damaged the car a little.

Oh, by the way. Mikey Waltrip called me last week and told me this was their plan. That's why I went with Jeff Burton in the picks.

Sorry I didn't tell anyone beforehand, but I needed the points :D :p
