Ok, its time for a new battery for my Suburban. I need some ideas opinions, and recommendations. Favorite brands, best warranty, longest life, etc. I live in the south so it rarely gets below freezing here, so I don't need a battery that can withstand extreme cold. The summers here are brutal, so I'll need one that can withstand a lot of heat. I also would like something 800CCA at the very minimum, since I have HID's in my lows and fogs, I have wired my lows to stay on with the fogs, plus I'm planning on installing a stereo system with at least two amps.

And for those who dont know, I have a 2001 Suburban with the 5.3 liter engine.

It's not heaven . . . it's Iowa!
I had to replace my 2 year old battery last winter. It was dark, snowing and -5°F

I wanted to go with an Optima but couldnt' find one locally. So I ended up just going to Napa and getting one of theirs.

I believe that's the one I got. Not quite the CCA as some others out there, but it seems good. Started the truck after it sat for 3.5 days in the sub zero weather. Can't be all that bad. :dunno:

How much was that battery at your local NAPA?

I honestly can't remember. I remember feeling like it cost more than it should have, though. I would give a wild-ass-guess of $180, but no idea how close that is . . . :(

Sorry.

Ive got an optima in mine... i love it. It deals with an air compressor.. my pa system, my 2 12 inch subs, flip dvd, all kinds of stuff.. and holds great voltage.. had it for 2 years.. and is still kickin... and yeah.. the compressor sometimes kicks on at night.. i ferget to shut the power off to the relay.. haha. but it takes abuse.

I've had both a red top and a yellow top Optima in a previous vehicle, the yellow crapped out after only a year. The red lasted about 2 years. Every other person I know thats had a red top barely got 2 -2.5 years out of it. Are they making the Optimas better now? The ones I had were almost 8 years ago, about the same timeframe my friends had thier Optimas too.

I use the top of the line at Advance Auto. My Father-in-law runs one, so if I ever have problems, he deals with it. I will have to say though, I've never had a problem with them.

Scotty, an Optima is a waste of money for your application. Go spend $75-90 on a good battery with a good warranty and call it a day. Take the other $100 you would have blown on a cool looking battery and buy your wife something nice.

OR, put it towards wheels. :naughty:

Most of the ones I'm pricing are in the $90 to $120 price range. A CHEAP one looks like it will cost me like 80 bucks. :uhoh:
