You can argue about the amount of $$$, but on the scale of reasonable <--> lawsuits, it tips towards the reasonable.

I'm not sure it's worth $5million but a little compensation seems to be in order.

Moreso than that guy who's suing his parents for not loving him enough.

Do me a favor. Go find out how many people attend all NASCAR events in a single season and then post the percentage of those people who ended up hurt from debris lost during accidents.

That same percentage is just how much I agree with you that these people are owed anything. Life is risky. Life right up next to a track where cars are doing 200+ MPH in tight packs is even more risky.

There was nothing negligent here, it was just an accident that occurred during the normal activity that those people knew they were coming to see. It's not like the light standard fell on them or the walkway gave out from under them on their way to get a beer. A car wrecked horribly during a race where people cheer horrible wrecks.

If NASCAR wants to work out a deal to pay for hospital bills or lost ages, fine. For lawyers, and even those involved, to get rich off of this situation; that's bullshit.

I'll agree with you if the fence is proven to have been in good shape. It may have already, I haven't read a whole lot on the matter

These people need to realize when you sit 50 feet away from a fence with 43 race cars doing 200mph that there is a change of being hurt..... life is risky... people die in bathtubs from slipping and bustin their noggin.

You forgot about the emotional stress and mental turmoil that has been caused.

This is the norm at any track. You basically sign off on your right to sue by buying the ticket and attending. Doesn't stop greedy bottom feeder blood sucking fucking attorneys from trying, but in most states it does severely limit their ability to collect a big payout... California is probably excluded since everything in California is always somebody elses fault.

I have no problem with and expected NASCAR/Daytona Raceway to pay the medical bills and maybe some free race tickets or something but a huge lawsuit is crap. But based on our pansy society where no one can chalk it up to "shit happens" I'm actually surprised it's only been three so far. I remember telling my dad that as soon as the wreck happened I bet that lawyers are on their way to circle the hospital. Also, wouldn't shock me if fans that weren't hurt start a class action suit for "emotional turmoil" for having to witness it.
