To retrieve codes with out a 3rd party programmer - Insert key and turn from off to on (with out starting) 3 times. Any codes will display on the ODO.
This is not fool proof 100% of the time. It will take several attempts ... do not give up if you do not get DONE or a Code. Known situations that will prevent the ECM from producing codes:
-foot brake applied
-any other electric input during attempt (keyless entry, adjusting windows, etc..)
