Took the FJ Cruiser for a ride off road

For most if not all you 4x4 and off road people my little trip would be kinda lame

The wife had to work on New Years day so the my mother in law and I needed something to do. I decided we would go for a ride to place in Tucson called Redington Pass.

The areas main road is dirt road you can drive a car up if you want to beat the shit out of it so that gives you an idea of basic road. Tucson had some snow in the upper elevations so the road was muddy and had many soft spots and large puddles. Not knowing the depth I put the FJ in 4 wheel drive and down the road we went.

Not having, driving or even being is a 4x4 (in situations where you need the 4x4) for many years and this is the first trip in the FJ we found a few trails to go down or up depending . Considering myself a total off road noob and not knowing the rig I did not want to do anything to get us in trouble and needed to get used to the FJ a little.

I would have taken more pics but mom does not get around that well. She wanted to take some as I came up some parts of the trail but she was having hard time keeping her footing so I got her back in the FJ before she fell

She had a really awesome time, she is asking me if we can go again today

In her 79 years she has never done anything like this and she it totally hooked. We went up and down some pretty good hills, a few areas I had to switch on the locker but we never went into 4 low. I can say this....the darn FJ climes like a mountain goat. I know its been a while for me but the FJ made it so easy.

Took a couple pics. The first one is the FJ in all it's glory after we came up a long off camber hill over rocks and holes and ruts and a nice step up at the end. Mom had a good hold on the roof handle and was yelling, laughing and shouting ohh my god!!! At one point I stopped and asked if she was ok and she said "keep going this is fun"!!!

The next one is mom in law: She took a bunch of pictures but I can't get them off her camera, no cable and it has a sony picture stick.....arrg!!

End of the day coming down the hills main road and heading back into town. Notice the Mustang.....it was being beat on pretty bad and the front spoiler was beat to hell.

The trail sign said 4 wheel drive required and also had a big sign that said "All off road vehicles must stay on designated roads" No kidding!!

If I were to go "off-roading," those would be the same kind of trails I would be on.

I'm glad you had a good time.

It's great that you & mom-in-law had fun.Once introduced to off-roading most folks want more Your MIL surely doesn't look 79

Keeping on the marked trails is the best way to insure that the area will remain open.I'm sure you'll find some more difficult trails once you get to exploring the area, and that's the fun off off-roading.

Thanks for sharing and BTW,Dynex makes real nice card readers that will accept many different memory sticks,I have one that works great.
