Oh horsehshit. If somebody wants to build a rat rod, it's not any more of a waste of money than anything else. You only live once. Do what you think is cool and pay zero attention to what anybody else thinks.

Actually I agree. That looks like a waste of good money. Much of what other people spend their money on looks like a waste to me.

My Dad is a bean counter aka CPA... He has always thought that I have always wasted money... Its weird.. When I was packing all my stuff to leave the house and go out on my own when I was 18 for college he wouldnt even help me pack my stuff in my car....

He didnt know how I was going to be able to pay for college so he thought that I shouldnt... All I heard was what if you didnt get a job, or what if your grades fall and they either ask you to quit work or leave on academic probation, what if, what if. I told him what if I never go...

I had a job my first day there!!!

Nothing has changed.. If he knew how much money that I have dumped into my trucks he would have a nervous break down..

I will give him credit though he has always had a six figure job... And growing up he has been unemployed for about 8 years over a period of 12 and lived off savings.. So conserving money to the point where you dont spend anything could be a good thing.. or NOT...

Some people work their ass off and put everything away for "retirement" and then they retire and die... only to have their kids blow every dime. That, or they are too frikking old to enjoy it

FWONK THAT.

I believe in saving money and being responsible. I don't have any credit card debt or loans other than my house... BUT... I am going to spend and enjoy WHILE I am here.

I worked with an old man about 40 years ago.
We were talking one night about me wanting to go on a little vacation, and I was worried that I couldn't really afford it.
He told me that he and his wife had worked and saved all their life and he was getting ready to retire. he was pushing 70 years old.
He said they had never went anywhere or done much of anything...always thinking that they would do all of that when they retired.
Now his wife was in real bad health...she could barely leave the house, and he was having health problems also.

He told me..."Go ahead and go...don't wait till you are old like me and can't go anywhere but to the Dr."
Since that day, I have taken time off and WENT SOMEWHERE, every time I got a chance to.
Darling Wife, myself and the kid have been all over this wonderful, beautiful country of ours.
At times we had to do it on the frugal side...but BY GOD WE DID IT. :D :D

I have not regretted a minute of it.

I could probably have a little more money stashed away if I had stayed home for those 40 years...but look what I would have missed.

I am still that way...give me a little time and a couple of bucks, and I am gone "SOMEWHERE" :D :D :D
Heck...half the time when we take off for a week or so...we don't even know where we are going...just the general direction.
We figure it out as we go.

I don't owe anybody anything.
Even the house is paid for.
Reckon I am entitled to spend a few bucks if I want to.

:D

PS:..sorry for writing a book.

That's why I only work 4 short days a week. I could easily make double the income if I was willing to put in long hours and work 6 days a week... easily.

I refuse to do it. I'm gonna enjoy life while I'm still young enough to do it. Who knows... any of us might be hit by a bus tomorrow.

Be responsible but ENJOY LIFE!

Nick,

Not sure if you were talking to me or not...but..."IF" you were speaking to me... :D :D
I appreciate your concern... I know a LOT of people that live way beyond their means.

I am not "LOADED" by any means...but I am pretty well OK...money wise. :D
I don't owe anybody ... anything... everything I have is paid for...including the house.

And trust me...we don't live beyond "OUR" means, by any stretch of the imagination.
:rollin:

I have thought about retiring for the last 3 or 4 years...but not sure what I would do if I "DID" retire...
I know I would get really, really bored if I didn't have something to do to occupy my time...

I make a fairly decent salary....So I just keep working and putting more and more cash in the bank against the day when I finally "DO" retire...or "THEY" retire me. :D

NO SIR!

I wasn't talking to you at all. I was talking about the people in my generation. I can think of loads of people that I know, in the 25 - 45 age bracket, up to their eyeballs in debt. More house than they can afford, 2 new car payments, etc. One broken appliance away from bankruptcy! :willy:

*Friends* who always complain about not having money. But they can afford to go out to eat 4+ nights per week. They have HBO and unlimited data on their unlimited minute cell phone packages. Enough money to drop $75 Fridays and Saturdays at the bars.

Different priorities for some I guess. :dunno: My folks just raised me different. :flag:

Understand totally.
There are a lot of people in "MY" generation or just younger than me, that do the exact same thing.

They owe everybody in the world ...
They make DARN GOOD money...but never "HAVE" any money.
It all goes to pay their bills. :( They are always broke.

One thing I have noticed is...my cars and trucks seem to run a LOT BETTER, when they are not carrying around a big ole heavy payment book. :D :D

I heard a guy say onetime....
"What do you have if you don't have PAYMENTS?"
answer.........."MONEY"

I get that not all people will like a rat rod, but how is this a waste of money. If you were to take this vehicle and build it another way like I’m guessing most people would expect to see a classic car it would cost 4 times as much. They invest as much money into the motor as anyone else would build, a street rod, but they tend to save money on not color matching or chroming all the accessories. That looks like there are maybe 3 different vehicles combined, front clip, cab, and the frame. The front clip and the cab were probably completely rusted barn finds that would never had made it into a restored classic car or a street rod, but they used what they had and patched the rest of it. The end result is that they have this car that runs as good and is just as reliable as a fully restored classic car or street rod, but they spent way less and have something that is truly original.
